It is still possible to infringe the registered and
unregistered design rights of third parties so a search may be necessary. Under the current law
introduced a few years ago a design registration can extend to different products to that registered, for
example a design registration for a teapot can be infringed by use of a similar design for a kettle or a
watering can. A search will not however, cover unregistered design rights.
