• Defending other IP rights - Broadly similar steps are followed to those set out above although in the
case of copyright there is no registration framework equivalent to (b) above. Copyright does have the
copyright tribunal (also part of the UK IPO) which is intended to decide on the terms and conditions of
copyright licences or licensing schemes of collective copyright bodies where the parties cannot agree
between themselves. Appeal from that tribunal is to the High Court in England and the Court of
Session in Scotland. It is not part of their function to deal with copyright infringement questions which
are a matter for the court. It is important to obtain specialist professional advice in all cases because
there are likely to be important differences depending on the IP rights and other relevant
circumstances.
